Mattia Di Cretico, aka MDC, is a musician, drummer and sound artist originally from Rome and currently based in Milan. As a drummer, he has mainly worked in the jazz and improvisation fields, playing and recording with different Italian and international musicians. In 2019, he started a sonic research that brought him to create his ambient solo project, under the moniker MDC. By focusing on tape cassettes and tape loops, as well as using samplers and synths, he builds up sound textures and soundscapes that create a nostalgic, dreamy and introspective feeling. In 2020, he released his first single “Escape from isolation” for the Italian label Blue Seal Records, with whom he’s working on a full-length album. In the meantime, he has also released “An Expanding Journey [‘21]”, a collection of performances done throughout 2021 for his YouTube channel, followed by “Sense/Hear”, an album centred around the different sounds of kalimba, and some sample packs dedicated to tape loops.
